Recent developments have been rapid with new science facilities, a new 12 classroom block with interactive facilities, a new drama studio and pavilion, a resurfaced all weather pitch and sixth form centre refurbishment. This commitment to development continues unabated with the addition of the new Music Centre September 2012 and the new Sports Hall completed January 2013.
The development programme cannot be financed by revenue and capital alone, and as our quest for funding continues, we must look to those who use, know and love our school for their continued generosity and support. As you read the exciting plans set out below, please consider the different ways in which you may be able to assist us in these ventures.
Laboratories & Classrooms.
Phase I, II & III of our Science Laboratories and Classroom facility completed in. 2005/07/08. This included interactive whiteboard and computer technology being introduced into each classroom and laboratory. Our thanks go to The Wolfson Foundation and The Drapers Company who have helped in providing funding for this project
The Lawrence House Pavilion
This impressive pavilion incorporating a performing arts studio was made possible by our successful application for funding from the Trustees of the Lawrence House Trust, a legacy from the Katie Caine Trust and a donation from the Friends of KGS.
The Pavilion was officially opened on 31 January 2007 by Mr Richard Rhodes, Chairman of the Lawrence House Trust and plaques presented by Mrs Sandra Tomlinson on behalf of the Katie Caine Trust and Mrs Lorraine Wareing on behalf of the Friends of KGS
The new pavilion complex has provided much needed facilities in the form of a purpose built drama studio for our students to use during the day and offers our community users and partners a much needed clubhouse facility during evenings, weekends and throughout the holidays. Situated overlooking the all weather surface it also provides a welcome shelter for spectators.
The male boarding accommodation was refurbished in 2007. This consisted of the total refurbishment of the bedroom and corridor areas and new bathroom facilities. Common room improvements have also been made to the house and boarders now have a comfortable lounge and recreational area.
All Weather Pitch
A new all weather playing surface was provided in 2008 further enhancing our sporting facilities. This is of mutual benefit.
Cricket Pavilion Refurbishment
The first phase of the Cricket Pavilion refurbishment commenced in the spring of 2010. A new roof and internal work was undertaken and now provides splendid facilities for our students. The original clock face was refurbished and shutters installed to protect the clock when the pavilion is not in use. Next year we hope to further enhance the facility by providing new scoring boards and landscaping the area around the pavilion to provide improved spectator facilities. Our thanks must go to the Old Kirkhamians’ Association for providing funds to enable the new roof and clock refurbishment and to some of the members who so generously donated money to this worthy project.
Sixth Form Centre & Café Bar
This two phase project commenced in the early summer of 2010 and has provided our Sixth Form students with a splendid common room area and Café Bar, and has been completed with the refurbishment of the learning resources area in summer 2011.
Vision for the Future
