At Kirkham Grammar Junior School we are proud of our excellent reputation for Drama which is taught in the Juniors as part of our Creative Arts Afternoon. Within our Infants, Drama is an essential part of our English Curriculum and is taught through Speaking & Listening. Drama within the Early Years is structured around activities that include action rhymes, songs, play and role-play. In addition, there are Drama Clubs for those children who are particularly keen or talented. All children are involved in several drama productions during their time at KGJS: Infant and Pre-School children are all involved in a Christmas Play and the Junior children perform in a bi-annual full musical production. Recent award-winning productions include Oliver, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin and Mary Poppins.

Pupils have the opportunity to watch  professional companies perform, both in school and at the theatre. We are also invited to performances at the Senior School. Performing opportunities are created in assemblies, bi-annual Arts Evenings, Open Days and other School events throughout the year. We offer Speech and Drama lessons, preparing the children for LAMDA examinations as well as local festivals.

“The discipline involved in creating this show was exemplary as every pupil knew exactly what to do, whether it was as a Principal or as part of the Ensemble. The whole Production was a great team effort and plaudits must go to teachers, parents and friends who have helped and encouraged along the way. The high standard expected by this school has again been attained and I am delighted to say that this was one of their best.” NODA, March 2019

“Pupils achieve national awards in music and drama…..A vibrant and enthusiastic musical rehearsal was observed……Pupils become confident public performers through involvement in theatre” Independent Schools Inspectorate, February 2017
