At Kirkham Grammar Junior, Infant and Pre-School, we are passionate about learning and aim to pursue academic excellence, ensuring that each pupil fulfils their potential.  Our curriculum is broad and balanced and we offer a curriculum which is creative, inspiring and exciting for the pupils. I1 (Reception)

Most of the children who join our Reception Classes move from our Pre-School, but new children are also welcomed from the September following their fourth birthday. In Reception, the children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. This curriculum sets out a clearly defined group of six areas of learning that most children are expected to achieve by the end of their Reception Year.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Mathematical Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

KS1 (5-7) and KS2 (7-11)

In addition to English, Maths and Science, the curriculum includes History, Geography, Music, Religious Education, Drama, PE & Games, Art, Design Technology, Computing, French (KS2) and PSHE.  Form teachers have special responsibility for the welfare of each pupil and whilst they are taught on the whole by their form teacher there is some specialist teaching in Music, Drama, PE and French (KS2). 

We have access to excellent resources and facilities to enrich the learning experience, including:

  • Large Hall with fully equipped stage with Sound and Lighting


Children are developing very quickly during their years at KGJS. We would encourage you as parents to do your best to encourage reading, speech, mathematical games and developing a positive attitude to homework activities. It is important that you have regular contact with your child’s form teacher and we therefore operate an open door policy. Parents receive written reports and Parents' Evenings are held at various times during the academic year.

It is important that we work closely with parents to ensure the very best for each of our pupils.
