2nd XI v Westholme

The 2nd XI had a great start on Saturday scoring their first goal in the opening minutes of the game from a short corner deflection at the far post from Camryn Spector. The players continued to grow in confidence attacking the Westholme defence from all angles. Shot after shot was saved or went narrowly wide! The girls kept their heads and played the ball around beautifully to create space all over the pitch. A second goal was sure to come but it certainly took its time! Geena Barlow converted from top D with a great open stick strike. The next goal came shortly after with Megan Hughes picking up a rebound off the keeper. 3-0 wasn't enough for the KGS girls, they kept applying pressure until Megan Hughes was able to convert again to make the final score 4-0.A great result so early in the season which demonstrated huge potential in the 2nd XI squad!

U15Xi v Westholme

Won 11-1

Scorers Livvie  Gebbie. -  3, Lucy Barrow -3, Tess Clowes - 3, Lizzie Relf. - 2

The Kirkham girls hit Westholme hard from the first whistle and dominated the game from start to finish. Our defence were rarely tested. Lucy Barrow and Olivia Gebbie totally controlled the midfield, Lizzie Relf and Tess Clowes created numerous chances and scored some lovely goals. Holly Cook swept with real composure behind the midfield. Puneet Mathauda and Esme Ikram were totally solid in defence and Danni Parziale and Alice Gascoigne made several piercing runs down the wings. A very strong team performance!

U14 v Westholme

The U14s dominated the majority of the game against Westholme and ran out as comfortable 5-0 winners. Lucy Treaddell scored the first goal after a period of heavy pressure in and around the Westholme D. Darcey Lonsdale added the second just before half time as she timed her run to the top of the D perfectly and rifled the ball into the bottom corner. In the second half KGS kept possession well and moved the ball around the pitch quickly and effectively. Hannah Doyle and Caity Preddy both did an excellent job in ensuring that they retained the ball for their team. Anna Wilkinson distributed the ball quickly and accurately from the centre of midfield which regularly stretched the Westholme defence and created space for the KGS forwards. Lucy Treaddell completed her hatrick with two well taken goals in the second half before Caity Preddy added the fifth and final goal from close range to cap a good personal performance. This was an impressive performance by the U14s who all worked tirelessly to ensure that they kept possession and moved the ball around quickly.

U13 7-a-side Hockey v Westholme

A Team Won 7-0

B team Won 3-1

The U13 teams played with enthusiasm and determination displaying solid skills and teamwork.

The U13s are to be congratulated on a strong performance at the weekend. The A Team defended well, with Libby Baxter at Sweeper, Izzy Kane at RD and Georgina Chaffe at LD. They closed down the Westholme forwards and tackled strongly before making good passes out to their forwards. Beth Dowbiggin worked extremely hard at CF/CM regaining possession of the ball on many occasions and driving forwards to the ‘D’ where she successfully scored 5 goals in the first half. In the second half, all players were switched from attack to defence and vice versa in an attempt to even up play. Izzy Kane scored two further goals taking the final score to 7-0.

The B Team also made some strong attacking moves. Emma Savidge at CF/CM picked the ball up well and attacked strongly down the centre channel, scoring 2 of the three goals. Play was at times a little narrow in attack and the ball was only occasionally played down the left and right channel. This made it easier for the Westholme defence to close down our attacking runs and regain possession of the ball. This will improve with experience and late into the second half a great ball was played to Elisha Amirkhani at LF who slotted away a great goal.

The Westholme attack were quick and skilful, making it difficult for our defence. There were times when the KGS defence were beaten and Westholme were 1 on 1 with our goalkeeper, Katie Ansell. She did a great job, clearing the ball and stopping Westholme scoring several goals. The final score was 3-1 to Kirkham. This really was a team effort and all girls are to be congratulated for their determination and hard work throughout the entire match.
