Image of Triple Win for KGS Rugby

KGS Rugby - Sat 29th Sept

1st XV v Lancaster RGS

Won 46-8

Kirkham Grammar School 1st XV won their local derby game versus Lancaster RGS 46-8. Although Lancaster started well and took an early 3-0 lead, it was KGS who dominated the game with the forwards controlling the game. Second row Blake Snell benefitted from Kirkham's power game and scored 2 tries. Centres Dan Kelly and Evan Powell also got on the score sheet as KGS scored tries from both forward and backs. Scrum half Cole Potts was instrumental in the way that Kirkham played and was able to score the first try after time to finish Lancaster off. Further tries came from Ethan Caine, Cam Wilkinson and Tom Giles as KGS completed another pleasing win.

KIRKHAM GS 2nd XV

Won 57 -0

The 2nd XV recorded a comfortable win over Lancaster scoring nine tries in the process after racing to a 26-0 lead inside 12 minutes. Oliver Barnett latched onto a kind bounce to sprint in from 15 metres with Keir Gordon, who looked sharp throughout, going over soon afterwards. Kirkham dominated the loose play and had a clear advantage in the scrum which allowed Jonty Cope to release his backs at will.

Three more tries were scored before half time from Gordon, Barnett and Adam Spence.

In the second half the whole Kirkham substitute’s bench was employed which altered the flow of the game a little. Kirkham gained control with Harrison Ross and Captain Josh Jones leading the way and Oliver Mills was very industrious in the loose. Three more tries were scored by Gordon, to complete his hat-trick and Cam Hayward cut a lovely line to go under the posts. The last try was arguably the best of the nine - as Kirkham went from their own line Barnett stole the ball, the backs moved the ball wide and nice inter-play between Max Bailey and Elliot Simcock saw Bailey force his way over. This was a very encouraging performance by the 2nd XV who looked a cohesive unit during both forward play and in behind.

U15A v Lancaster Royal Grammar school

Won 40-5

The U15s played with a different backline combination for the third time this season and it proved to be an exciting one. Fly half Gregor Anderson and debutant winger Harry Booth both scored late on in the first half following a very physical start to the game. The Kirkham forwards were dominant at the set piece and breakdown, providing top quality ball for the backs. The back row of Jake Merrick, Rhys Frey and Tom Hoad worked tirelessly both in attack and defence, whilst the front five maintained a high work rate which included strong ball carrying from Archie Rowlings, Nathan Gregan and Harry Snape.

In the second half Kirkham enjoyed the majority of possession. Vice-captain Aaron Pope looked powerful and broke the LRGS defensive line a number of times, whilst Tom Gut, Tobias Parkinson and Joe Medcalfe made plenty of ground out wide. Second half tries were scored by Aaron Pope (2), Tobias Parkinson and Joe Medcalfe.
