J1 pupil, Ralph, has been involved in a personal challenge for 10 days (Thursday 11 March 2021 - Saturday 20 March 2021) raising money for ‘The Sparkle Foundation Malawi’ https://sparklemalawi.org/. His Godmother, Sarah, founded, built and successfully runs the orphanage in Malawi. She started this amazing work when she was just 21 years old. The charity set a challenge this March, ‘Spring in your Step’, to walk, run or swim a mile a day for 10 days. Ralph chose to walk a mile every single day committing whole heartedly to the cause; sometimes before school, often in the dark at night and in all kinds of weather! He has not complained once... in fact has often reminded his parents that he still needs to do it before the day is out! Ralph set a fundraising target of £200 on his JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ralph-rowley and was delighted to smash this raising £1919 in total! The support from family, friends and Kirkham Grammar School parents has been wonderful.

Talking to us about Ralph's achievement, Mrs Rowley said, "We are so very proud of Ralph. It is without doubt the schools' values to ‘be kind, work hard’ and ‘never give up’ that have truly been embedded in Ralph throughout the duration of his personal challenge. He is very proud of all the money raised to help the boys and girls less fortunate over in Malawi. Ralph received a personal video from the charity after mile 7, when he had already raised £700, thanking him and encouraging him to keep going!

Ralph has also chosen this challenge to go towards the prestigious Bronze Chief Scout award he is on course to receive at Beavers.

Well done, Ralph...we are all very proud of you!
