Indoor Athletics Match

Kirkham Grammar School U11s v Preston Harriers AC U11s

On Saturday 22 January, Kirkham Grammar School hosted Preston Harriers to compete for the ‘Bob Welfare Memorial Shield’. Bob was a real stalwart in athletics circles across Lancashire, at both club and school level, and has been sorely missed by all who knew him.

All athletes have worked hard in recent weeks in their individual events and relays and were nervous but excited about competing for the first time in two years.

During the morning they took part in the team speed bounce, long jump, triple jump, vertical jump and javelin. The track events consisted of 1, 2, 3 and 4 lap races and the competition concluded with the sprint and obstacle relay.

After one hour of excellent competition, where the lead changed hands many times, the results were as follows:

U11 boys

Kirkham Grammar School: 90pts - Preston Harriers AC: 58pts

U11 girls

Kirkham Grammar School: 76pts - Preston Harriers AC: 73pts

These results saw Kirkham Grammar School win the ‘Bob Welfare Memorial Shield’ which was won by Preston Harriers in 2020.

Kirkham Grammar School would like to thank Preston Harriers for the fantastic support they gave to the school by assisting in the officiating duties throughout the morning.
