KGS U14 v Merchant Taylors U14 - Saturday 20 May 2023

Merchant Taylors U14: 72-9 (20 overs)

KGS U14: 74-3 (16 overs)

(KGS won by 7 wickets)

On a beautiful sunny morning, KGS Captain, Oliver Y won the toss and put the opposition in to bat first. Merchant Taylors made a quick start but were soon pegged back by the bamboozling spin twins of Jake H (1 wicket for 13 runs) and Ali S (3 wickets for 6 runs), and at one point Ali was on a hat-trick! The opponents staggered to 72-9 off their overs with some excellent seam bowling from Brodie B (2 wickets for 6 runs) and Seth G (2 wickets for 11 runs), with special mention to Ethan S who took a fine catch. It was then a slow and steady start by Kirkham's opening batsmen, with Brodie B making a patient 10 runs.

Merchant Taylors bowled a disciplined length and made the scoring difficult for Kirkham, but Oliver Y smashed a quick 36 not out with 8 boundaries to secure victory well within the allotted time. This is now 4 wins out of 4 for the U14 KGS team with much to look forward to after their half term break.

KGS U13 Lancashire Cup

The KGS U13s are having a good cup run this year: Currently in the quarter-final having played against Ripley St Thomas, Bishop Rawstorne and St Hilda’s.

Round 1 was at Ripley St Thomas. Kirkham batted first showing confidence with the bat and utilising the small boundary scoring 129-3. Then bowled with patience which was supported by the fielding leading to Ripley St Thomas scoring 82-6 off their 20 overs.

Round 2 was against Bishop Rawstorne. Having lost the toss, Bishop Rawstorne chose to bat first. When bowling KGS took wickets regularly, supported by the fielding leading to a couple of run outs with Bishop Rawstorne scoring 84-5. When Kirkham batted they also lost wickets at regular intervals but managed to keep scoring. Resulting in winning in the last over: 85-8.

Round 3 was vs St Hilda’s. Having lost the toss again and being put into bat, KGS got off to a strong start with scoring two boundaries in the first over. They kept scoring quickly and finished on 171-6 from 20 overs. KGS' bowling started strong with 2 wickets in the first 3 overs resulting in St Hilda’s scoring 118-9.
