Kirkham Grammar School’s 1st XV ended their centenary rugby season on a high note with an emphatic 40-7 victory over Woodhouse Grove in their final game of the year. Kirkham dominated the first half, showcasing their attacking prowess with five well-crafted tries. Iddon, Kelso, Anderson, Carter, and Mathauda all crossed the line in a scintillating opening 40 minutes, with Ted Wilson adding four successful conversions to build a commanding lead. Woodhouse Grove managed to respond early with a solitary try, but they struggled to contain Kirkham’s relentless offensive pressure.
The second half proved to be a tighter affair, with both sides defending resolutely. Kirkham’s dominance in possession and territory, however, kept Woodhouse Grove pinned in their own half for much of the period. The game looked set to finish without further scoring until the final play, when Littler capped off a controlled catch-and-drive from the forwards, sealing a memorable performance. The victory not only highlighted Kirkham’s quality but also served as a fitting conclusion to their historic 100th year of rugby.
